Alpaca Features

  • Can produce a natural fibre that is very soft to handle and lightweight to wear, which is always in demand by the fashion industry.
  • Fleece has good thermal properties.
  • Environmentally friendly because:
    - soft padded feet minimize damage to fragile soils.
    - they do not tend to ringbark trees
    - they require minimal chemical input [drenches or dipping]
    - the fleece processing requires less chemicals than other fibres.
  • Adapt to a wide range of conditions and climates.
  • Do not suffer from bloat, unlike other ruminants.
  • Easily halter trained and mustered.
  • No crutching or mulesing required.
  • No footrot or flystrike.
  • Dung in one area, reducing levels of internal parasites.
  • Travel well in a float or van, sitting in a “kush” position.
  • Can be used as herd protectors for sheep, goats and poultry.
